Carver Mathis - Voice, Piano

Carver Mathis is a Houston-based lyric tenor and vocal pedagogue known for developing technically grounded, expressive, and confident singers. He is the Founder and Artistic Director of The Singer Sanctuary HTX and the owner of Carver Mathis Vocal Studio, where he trains emerging artists, pre-professional singers, and working performers across the vocal arts. Carver also teaches recurring Broadway masterclasses, presenting his signature work on vocal lyricism and interpretive storytelling.

Carver holds advanced training in vocal pedagogy, performance psychology, and multiple voice methodologies, allowing him to integrate scientific clarity with artistry in every session. His students have been accepted into prestigious universities and conservatories and have performed in major productions throughout Houston and across the United States. He has prepared singers featured on the Houston Grand Opera stage and coached performers for productions with Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS).

Many of Carver’s students have earned notable competitive achievements, including wins in regional and local vocal competitions—most recently a first-place finish at Katy Idol. He also mentors emerging professionals transitioning from conservatory training into the industry, supporting their audition preparation, repertoire development, and artistic identity.

With professional experience as a performer, director, educator, and arts leader, Carver brings a holistic understanding of the vocal arts to his teaching. He joins The American Music Academy with a mission to help each singer cultivate technical mastery, artistic confidence, and a voice that is both authentic and compelling.

Mr. Carver teaches at our Bellaire studio on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Why Choose AMA?

At the American Music Academy, we believe that everyone should experience the joy of making music. Our goal is to provide an environment of education that is welcoming to all ages. Coming from generations of musicians, founders Wyatt and Laura Coleman have hand selected a team of professional and passionate musicians to bring quality music education to Houstonians. Our faculty has instrument-specific degrees from acclaimed universities all around the country. Our teachers tailor their music lessons to each student based on their individual goals. We offer the most comprehensive lessons in Houston, which include theory, ear training, sight reading technique, performance skills, and repertoire. Our brand new, state-of-the-art facilities located in Meyerland include a comfortable lounge with free Wi-Fi, water, magazines, and toys for children to play with as they wait for their lesson to begin. Spacious studio rooms are equipped with quality upright pianos, music stands, and mirrors to monitor progress. The American Music Academy takes pride in supplying our students with the best upright pianos to practice their modern or classical repertoire. Students will be able to use the full capabilities of a piano including dynamics, pedaling, musical phrasing, and dramatic interpretation. Students will be able to participate in seasonal recitals at one of Houston’s many venues. Recitals, included in their tuition, display each student’s personal achievements in their instrument. Our students have the option to perform piano, guitar, violin, viola, voice/singing, cello, and drums!
